README - Interactive Visualisation Framework - Ivf++ 1.0.0 ---------------------------------------------------------- Ivf++ was written to ease the use of the OpenGL library. The Ivf++ library started as a small set of classes used in some smaller projects to test some ideas. It has since then grown to 140 classes and has been used in real-world applications. When the library started there were no specific goals but reusability. During the development, the following goals have been important. 1. Ease of use 2. Extendibility 3. Reusability 4. Portability The library has been successfully used under Linux, (IRIX 6.x) and Windows 9x/NT/2000/XP. WHATS NEW IN Ivf++ 1.0.0 ------------------------ - To support building Ivf++ on MacOS X, Linux, and Windows withouth immense effort, the GNU Autotools was abandoned in favor of the CMAKE build system. This system automatically generates Makefiles for Unix/Linux based systems and makefiles/projectfiles for Win32/64. - Real-world demo applications added. - A lot of small fixes. - GUI for generating Ivf++ applications (ivfappgen gui) - GUI for generating Ivf++ classes (ivfclassgen gui) - Pre-build win32 binary releases. WHATS NEW IN Ivf++ 0.9.1 ------------------------ - Problems with libtool led to invalid shared library names. - Python based configuration tool "ivfconfig" for easy configuration of build options WHATS NEW IN Ivf++ 0.9.0 ------------------------ - New event model in CIvfWidgetBase based classes in libraries such as ivffltk, ivfwin32. In this event model event classes can be assigned to the widgets, enabling the use of handler classes. - Handler classes for mouse viewing, scene rendering, selection and interaction, see the handlers and fly examples - Updated reference documentation. Most classes are documented. - Win32: Native Win32 user interface library ivfwin32 added that can be used as a replacement for the FLTK based ivfui library on Windows. - Stereo rendering support - Win32: MFC support updated, due to popular demand. - ivf3dui library implementing 3D user interface controls - Python script ivfappgen added to easily create template Ivf++ applications WHATS NEW IN Ivf++ 0.8.1 ------------------------ - Support for viewports using the CIvfViewport class. See example viewports. - getWorkspace() added to CIvfWorspaceWidget. - Win32: DLL-version will now build. WHATS NEW IN Ivf++ 0.8.0 ------------------------ - Smartpointer system added. All classes using reference counting are can be declared using CIvfXXXPtr instead. This pointer can then automatically deal with addReference()/deleteReference() calls and object destruction. Smartpointers are easily declared using the IvfSmartPointer macro added before the class declaration. - Lighting implemented using a singleton CIvfLighting. - Singletons for managing blending, rasterization and pixelops. - Class info implemented in all classes using the IvfClassInfo macro. - Initial support for VertexArrays. - DLL-support for all libraries except the widget libraries. Any ideas why I can't link my widget libraries with the FLTK DLL version?? - ivffont, ivfmanip not supported anymore. Major redesign needed. - TGA and BMP image loading (Thanks to John Aspras), see the ivfext library. WHATS NEW IN Ivf++ 0.8.b5 ------------------------ - Loading of Ac3D, DXF and .poly files natively. - JPEG and PNG image loaders implemented. - GLUT dependencies removed. The ivfui library now uses FLTK to implement the GUI. This also a more clean and simple implementation. - Uses the gle-3.0.3 extrusion library instead of the one in GLUT. - Widget functionality placed in a separate library ivfwidget. Specific widgets are derived using multiple inheritance. - CIvfWorkspace, CIvfConstructionplane, for implementing cursor manipulation - CIvfUcs3d user coordinate system class. - All math specific classes moved to ivfmath. - Culling algorithm separated into the CIvfCulling class. - Buffer selection separated into the CIvfBufferSelection class. - CIvfPolySet added to support geometry for Ac3D/3DS files - Win32: precompiled JPEG/PNG/GLE/ZLIB included in the distribution. - New implemented examples, using the new ivfui library. - An object can now be assigned a render state using the CIvfRenderState derived classes CIvfPolyState, CIvfBlendState, CIvfLightingState, CIvfCompositeState. WHATS MISSING in Ivf++ 0.8.b5 ----------------------------- - DLL-support on windows not updated. - Documentation of the new classes. WHATS NEW IN Ivf++ 0.6.6 ------------------------ - Now implements a simple matrix/vector library ivfmath. - Image loading is separated from the core ivf library. An IvfTexture is assigned an image using a IvfImage derived class. Special image loaders (Currently only SGI images) are located in the ivfimage library. - Most IvfVector references have been replaced by IvfVec3d or IvfVec4d. WHATS NEW IN Ivf++ 0.6.4 ------------------------ - The library now uses prefixed includes. (Sorry...) #include <IvfShape.h> changes to #include <ivf/IvfShape.h> The prefix denotes the library where the class definition can be found. - Library can now be built as DLL:s under Windows. - Initial support for manipulators, see fltk1 example. - Initial scene-graph culling. - Support for using the library with the Microsoft MFC library - Test drive of Ivf++ autoconf/automake system. - Documentation will be released separately. LICENSING --------- Ivf++ comes with complete free source code. Ivf++ is available under the terms of the GNU Library General Public License, Version 2 (LGPL) with exceptions: 1. Modifications to the Ivf++ configure script, config header file, and makefiles by themselves to support a specific platform do not constitute a modified or derivative work. The authors do request that such modifications be contributed to the Ivf++ project - send all contributions to "ivf@byggmek.lth.se". 2. Objects/Classes that are subclassed from Ivf++ classes do not constitute a derivative work. 3. Static linking of applications and widgets to the Ivf++ library does not constitute a derivative work and does not require the author to provide source code for the application or widget, use the shared Ivf++ libraries, or link their applications or widgets against a user-supplied version of Ivf++. . If you link the application or widget to a modified version of Ivf++, then the changes to Ivf++ must be provided under the terms of the LGPL in sections 1, 2, and 4. 4. You do not have to provide a copy of the Ivf++ license with programs that are linked to the Ivf++ library, nor do you have to identify the Ivf++ license in your program or documentation as required by section 6 of the LGPL. However, programs must still identify their use of Ivf++. The following example statement can be included in user documentation to satisfy this requirement: [program/widget] is based in part on the work of the Ivf++ project (http://www.gorkon.byggmek.lth.se/ivfweb). DOCUMENTATION ------------- Documentation to the Ivf++ library is provided as a User's guide provided as a Adobe Acrobat .PDF file and a reference guide. These are provided as separate distributions available from http://sourceforge.net/projects/ivfplusplus. Unpack the tar file in the ivf++ directory using the following command: tar xvzf ivf-doc-x.x.x.tar.gz This will extract the documentation in the /doc folder, which contains the following: /doc/html Class reference in html form. REQUIREMENTS ------------ General Working OpenGL environment including the GLU library. Fast Light Toolkit 1.1.x - http://www.fltk.org JPEG library (libjpeg) - ftp://ftp.uu.net/graphics/jpeg/ PNG library (libpng) - http://www.libpng.org Tubing and extrusion library, gle-3.0.x http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/gle Windows Visual C++ 6.0, with a recent service pack. When compiling the libraries on SGI Irix 6.x it use the -n32 switch. Currently the makefiles for Ivf++ currently only support -n32 objects. Also when on SGI systems do not use the prepackaged versions of the libraries. These packages will place the include and library files on different locations.
