About trayion
===============

trayion is meant to be used as an external application for Ion3. trayion
provides a notification area, or "system tray", in a manner compliant with
freedesktop.org's System Tray Protocol Specification[1]. This allows trayion
to serve as a system tray area for recent GNOME and KDE applications, and
should work for applications from GNOME 2.x and later or KDE 3.x and later.

It behaves like a Window Maker dockapp, so it can be redirected into the
Ion3 statusbar. It implements FreeDesktop (XEmbed) trayicon protocol, so
it can show trayicons from Qt4 and gtk2 applications. 

Trayion was based in wmsystray 0.1.1, by Matthew Reppert, but was
modified to be better suited to the Ion3 statusbar.

Building trayion
==================

To build trayion from source, just type "make" in the top source directory
(the same directory this file is in). You may need to change the defines in
Rules.make to match your system; for example, X11 might not be in /usr/X11R6
(it is on most GNU/Linux systems). You will need the XFree86-devel package
(or xlibs-devel, or whatever package provides files like
/usr/X11R6/include/Xlib.h) to compile on package-managed systems like Debian
and Mandrake.


Using trayion
===============

Just add 'trayion' to your '~/.xinitrc' or '~/.xsession' script.

In order to get adjustable icon sizes with Ion3, you need to disable a
kludge that comes by default with Ion3. As trayion correctly sets the
window manager hints, this kludge is not needed.

Copy 'cfg_kludges.lua' from '/etc/ion3' or '/usr/pkg/etc/ion3' or
'/usr/local/etc/ion3' (depending in your Ion3 installation) to your
'~/.ion3' directory. Then change the following lines in the
'~/.ion3/cfg_kludges.lua' file:

   defwinprop{

       statusbar = "systray",
       max_size = { w = 64, h = 64},
       min_size = { w = 64, h = 64},
   }

to:

   defwinprop{
       is_dockapp = true,
       statusbar = "systray",
       --max_size = { w = 64, h = 64},

   }
   
Now you can control the icon size using the trayion '-iconsize' command
line argument. The default size is 14 pixels.

Config Files
============
Icon Sorting: ~/.trayion/sorted-iconlist.conf
Icon Hiding:  ~/.trayion/hidden-iconlist.conf

An initial version of the file can be created issuing the command
  $ trayion-dump
in a shell. This will create a file 
 /tmp/sorted-iconlist.conf
You can copy the contents of the file in 
~/.trayion/sorted-iconlist.conf
and 
~/.trayion/hidden-iconlist.conf

and then edit them, changing the ordering of the icons in the first
one, selecting which icons you want to be hidden in the second one.

The configuration files can be reloaded on the fly issuing the command 
  $ trayion-reload
in a shell.
