If your current location is significantly to the north or south of the Equator, and the user tracking mode is set to MGLUserTrackingModeFollow, and you repeatedly zoom out using the two-finger tap gesture until z0–1, the user dot stays fixed at the center of the view, even though the map has been constrained so that your location is significantly above or below the center of the view.
In my case, I’m currently located in California. But after zooming out using the two-finger tap gesture, I wind up somewhere in the Pacific:
Panning disables user tracking mode, revealing – to my relief – that I’m still in California:
