Included a blog post by Jackson Chen, which DID work when I followed it to perform Matrix Synapse Maintenance, versus the 2020 blog post by Victor Berger, which DID NOT work when performining maintenance.

See https://pr15083--synapse-docs-previews.netlify.app/usage/administration/database_maintenance_tools.html .

Pull Request Checklist

  • Pull request is based on the develop branch
  • Pull request includes a changelog file. The entry should:

    • Use markdown where necessary, mostly for code blocks.
    • End with either a period (.) or an exclamation mark (!).
    • Start with a capital letter.
    • Feel free to credit yourself, by adding a sentence "Contributed by @github_username." or "Contributed by [Your Name]." to the end of the entry.
  • Pull request includes a sign off
  • Code style is correct
    (run the linters)

@DMRobertson what is the next step? is there anything else I need to submit with this PR?

No, thanks. But:

after I had experienced tons of frustration not getting anything to work in the ancient blog post from 2020.

it would be useful if you could describe what your frustrations were with the old blog post, e.g. what commands failed and what error messages you saw; what .

(Additionally: there's no need to ping @DMRobertson twice. The Synapse team will see updates to this issue---though you're extremely unlikely to see a response over a weekend.)
