JabRef currently does not support Java 9 (JabRef/jabref#2594). Since Java 9 will be released soon, I think, it is better to pin Java 8.

I also updated to homepage to the SSL-enabled homepage.

Makes sense, thanks! We will also have to modify the start script as it currently would use Java 9 if set as default jvm. I'm thinking of building a more general script where you can give compatible versions as parameter, as quite a few java packages need similar functionality.
