Can you try recovering the full stacktrace? The syslog only contains the bottom most stackframe afaict.
I remember suffering from https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/3462 some time ago. Does that match your stacktrace?
What mutter version are you using?

Again, shot in the dark, but the stacktrace might be originating from the workspace-switcher-manager extension. Maybe disable that first?

Something else weird, under xorg I get half a waveform:

I'll try disabling the extensions

oh weird the waveform is misaligned under high detail mode as well. strange. (the beatgrid is correct but looks wrong here)

I'll do a bisect

@acolombier 's fix fixed the half-waveform issue, but I still get the crash on preference change. I'll try some more debugging.

mutter version looks to be 46.0-1ubuntu9

I got a backtrace from gnome-shell, this looks like https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/3462 which is fixed upstream https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/3725.

good to know. I suffered from the same previously, thankfully fedora had already pulled in the fix back then and I just had to dnf upgrade ;)...

Nice to hear! Shall we close this issue?

Would it be ok to leave this open until Ubuntu releases a fix? In case other people come across the problem
