Welcome to PIXIE.

Ridesharing applications, such as Uber and Lyft, have been able to provide people with a safe, reliable, and affordable ride to any nearby location. It works well as an improved taxi service to summon drivers to passengers in need of a ride. However, these types of applications limit the range in which passengers are able to travel. The reason being that drivers are usually not willing to drive too far from their current location, and riders are usually not willing to pay for an expensive ride. If both the driver and the rider were trying to go to the same place, it would be more convenient if the two parties could easily connect with each other and travel together, rather than one chauffeuring the other. In addition, there is currently no favorable way to connect people who are attending the same concert or event. The best available resource for event goers to find a ride is to scroll the event’s Facebook page. Posting to ridesharing pages on Facebook is also the primary way for college students to find rides between their school home but the Facebook comment searching process is often a hectic and difficult process.

Our web application would be a new spin on ridesharing. Targeting college students going to/from home and event goers, the ultimate goal is to connect people within a local area who are both trying to travel to the same location or event. It’s purpose is not to create profit for one party or the other. Rather, Pixie brings together members of a community in a way that benefits every user. Riders post where they are going and drivers can pick them up to split the tab of gas, however Pixie does not guarantee monetary transactions to the driver.
