by just treating it the same way as the newer BWW format.

It may not perfectly import .bmw files, as there are some differences in the file format, but Bagpipe Music Write import is marked as experimental anyway.
There's nothing to loose by trying IMHO, esp. as the user in the thread above was able to load those after a simple renaming of the files from
*.bmwto*.bww.
