On recent Synology firmware (6.2+), nova complains that it cannot play the file in the Video Info activity. In order to overcome this issue you need to go on the Synology's multimedia server configuration panel on the web interface and identify your Android device in the DMA compatibility tab then list devices and select "generic DLNA" instead of "Android device".
