Reduce amount of unwanted automatic space insertions

So I came across this while trying to figure out why the heck selecting a suggestion does notnadd a space after it only to realize that its invisible... Is there a reason for doing that instead of adding an actual space? If punctuation is the next character you could just delete the space

This would be bad if someone for whatever reason decides to insert spaces manually at unusual positions, e.g. trying to write space .. The result would be that on typing . the text would change to space., forcing the user to correct it.

Another reason to not insert the space may be that some input fields may not deal well with an extra trailing space, like when entering the user name in a login field.
