We are incorporating some last-minute editorial comments from Michael Orr @ Intel, INT v1.0 specifications will be tagged and released in the next couple of days.
Slides used by Mukesh & JK to drive an open discussion on future directions of the working group can be found here.
There was an excellent discussion on potential P4 applications of interest to working group members.
- Applicability of P4 and programmable data planes to 5G Network Slicing.
- It was pointed out that the P4 switch architecture and language lack proper support for applications that require buffering of packets for the purpose of delaying transmission and/or acting on a group of packets.
- Autonomous networks: Can INT enable Deep Learning and autonomous responses to network events? What extensions/capabilities are required in INT for this?
Jonghwan Hyun presented his team's work on P4 @ ONF. More specifically, he talked about P4 support in ONOS controller, plans to support INT in ONOS, and offloading of 5G Serving and Packet Gateway functionality into P4-enabled switches.
- Version 1.0 of INT specifications to be released over the next few days.
- Next working group meeting to be held in two weeks on Thursday May 3, 2018. As always, location and agenda will be announced over the mailing list closer to the meeting date.
