Snap Camera was a popular application that allowed users to add Snapchat-like filters and lenses to their desktop camera. The app was initially launched in 2018 as a standalone application for Windows and macOS and was an instant hit among creators, gamers, and influencers.
The application allowed users to choose from hundreds of filters and lenses, including those created by Snapchat's community of lens creators. Snap Camera integrated seamlessly with video conferencing apps like Zoom, Skype, and Google Meet, allowing users to add a fun element to their virtual meetings and calls.
However, on January 25, 2023, Snap Camera reached its end of life. This means that the application is no longer being updated or supported, and users can no longer download it from the Snap Camera website or app stores.
The decision to discontinue Snap Camera came as a surprise to many users who had come to rely on the app for adding fun and engaging filters to their videos. However, the move was not entirely unexpected, given that Snapchat had been investing heavily in its augmented reality (AR) technology and had been integrating its lenses directly into various platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat itself.
The goal of this project is to make Snap Camera fully functional again and to decentralize it.
