Per #1693 , the "versioned docs" setup has caused a lot of annoyance and difficulty for both us as maintainers and contributors. We barely get any traffic to the older versions, we don't maintain the older code at this point, and Tim agreed it's time to drop the docs versioning.
While I'm at it, I'm doing some other cleanup and reorganization as well.
