So, this means that we should use print!() for debugging purposes, and stdout().write() for general purposes?

Exactly. If you just want to write some bytes/chars to stdout, print! Was
probably never the right tool although I'm not sure the docs make this
clear.

Thanks for the PR! I'd rather hold some discussion on #23818 before rushing to a fix here, so I'm going to close this while we hash it out on the issue first.
