Hi there Bernhard :)

..wanted to fire up Fallout Tactics in Win98se and it seems to need at least 4mb
of vram to launch or display properly.
In the case of FOT it starts but completely garbled. I`ve tested the GOG and original 3 disc version.

I guess there are more titles that may have such requirements.
So i wanted to ask for such a feature :)

Cheers
Chris

This would be nice to have and it would probably be easy to add.

With DOSBox-X if you set vmemsize = 4 in the .conf file it will work with the S3 Trio64 within Windows, so Fallout Tactics should be playable. But this doesn't work with DOXBox-Pure.

And hopefully 4MB will be enough, because the S3 Trio64's Windows drivers don't support more than 4MB. So setting the VRAM to something like 8MB isn't recognised.

More VRAM would also allow for increased colours on the Windows desktop at higher resolutions. Currently 32-Bit (16 million colours) at 800x600 is the maximum possible with the 2MB of the S3 Trio64. But increasing it to 4MB will allow for 16 million colours at 1024x768 :)

Can be set between 512KB and 8MB

Oh, this was easier than I thought. But as @PoloniumRain said, 4MB is the maximum that gets recognized in Windows.

Because changing this breaks existing save states this new core option defaults to 2MB.
