I'm creating this issue just for future reference, because I always have a hard time finding the appropriate discussion threads.

This was first suggested in a comment in #1104; various comments in that thread then continue the discussion. In addition, #1115 is relevant, and to a lesser extent, other issues with the "clients" label.

#1410, on the other hand suggests sort of the opposite approach -- i.e., abandoning the third-party clients concept (unified through a standard spec, which is still under construction at #1065), and keeping only one client (or a handful thereof) under the tldr-pages repo.

At the moment only a few clients remain under the tldr-pages organization. I'll close this issue since the discussion can take place at #1410.
