Hello,
I was checking several repositories maintaining python-incremental and python-twisted where incremental depends on twisted, and twisted depends on incremental.

I checked setup.py but I don't see any thing saying that incremental depends on twisted.

So, is twisted a mandatory dependency on incremental?

Hi

Can you give an example of such a repository ?

The hard dependencies are here

incremental/setup.cfg

Lines 23 to 25 in 5752c86

install_requires =
setuptools
typing >= 3.7.4.3; python_version < '3.5'

There is the optional incremantal[scripts] that depends on twisted

incremental/setup.cfg

Lines 43 to 46 in 5752c86

[options.extras_require]
scripts =
click>=6.0
twisted>=16.4.0

Thank you for the answer @adiroiban . Just click on the linked python-incremental and python-twisted. They are from Arch Linux repository. Look the Dependencies sectiion.

Yes. In order to address this, my question is: is twisted a mandatory dependency on incremental? Or optional dependency? If no, I can report it to Arch Linux maintainers.

If you want to use incremental command line tools, twisted is mandatory.

If you only want to use the incremental API, it is not manadatory.

Hope it helps.

I am happy to review a PR that removes twisted/twisted as a dependency.

<h1>Incremental 24.7.2 (2024-07-29)</h1>
<h2>Bugfixes</h2>
<ul>
<li>
<p>Incremental could mis-identify that a project had opted in to version
management.</p>
<p>If a <code>pyproject.toml</code> in the current directory contained a
<code>[project]</code> table with a <code>name</code> key, but did not
contain the opt-in <code>[tool.incremental]</code> table, Incremental
would still treat the file as if the opt-in were present and attempt to
validate the configuration. This could happen in contexts outside of
packaging, such as when creating a virtualenv. When operating as a
setuptools plugin Incremental now always ignores invalid configuration,
such as configuration that doesn't match the content of the working
directory.

<li>Incremental 24.7.0 would produce an error when parsing the
<code>pyproject.toml</code> of a project that lacked the
<code>use_incremental=True</code> or <code>[tool.incremental]</code>
opt-in markers if that file lacked a <code>[project]</code> section
containing the package name. This could cause a project that only uses
<code>pyproject.toml</code> to configure tools to fail to build if
Incremental is installed. Incremental now ignores such projects.
