I’m not if this warning is a good idea actually. I have projects where a Next.js app co-resides with AFAIU, Examples:

@kachkaev Good point! On the other hand, i've actually met issues before that were caused by using one TypeScript configuration for more than just Next.js - for example this one . Doing so seems to be indeed risky and prone to unexpected behaviour if not done right. Although in this example it was more about 'module' option than 'target' as i remember, but a warning seems to be applicable when doing such things. The linked issue #37271 is also kept mentioned from time to time, so it seems like more devs keep stumbling on issues when expecting that the 'target' option should make an effect. Maybe it is somehow possible to suppress this warning as a sign that you know what you are doing? Thanks! |

In theory, there can be a new option in That’s new tests, new docs, etc., so before committing to all that complexity I think it's very important to understand how frequently people get stuck with misconfiguring Perhaps, Next.js telemetry can shed some light on the value of this new warning, but I would not add it without usage data. And if there is added value, what if a comment in autogenerated |

Warnings could lead to false positives so I think we can solve this problem another way by removing the default We should not be assigning any tsconfig properties that are designed for emit, only for type checking. See #44567 |

There is [some confusion](https://twitter.com/samselikoff/status/1608840153963057152) over why `"target": "es5"` is in `tsconfig.json` and whether or not it should be changed. The `target` property is not used by Next.js, so this PR removes it. - Closes: #37271 - Closes: #43582

I've added a warning that occurs if
targetintsconfig.jsonis changed from defaultes5to any different value, as requested at (fixes #37271)This PR would save time for those that change this option and falsely expect to see changes in the output code.
