## Description

Census3 is an API service to create censuses for elections with holders of a single token or a combination of them.
The service creates a list of holder addresses and balances and keeps it updated in real time, for every registered token.
Then, it allows creating a merkle tree census (compatible with [Vocdoni](https://vocdoni.io/)) with those holders, using their balances as vote weights.

#### Suported contract types

The service suports the following token types:
* ERC20
* ERC721
* ERC777
* POAP
* Gitcoin Passport Score
* Gitcoin Passport Shields (*coming soon*)
* ERC1155 (*coming soon*)


#### About censuses
* The censuses are published on [IPFS](https://ipfs.tech/) after their creation.
* Census3 uses [go.vocdoni.io/dvote/tree/arbo](go.vocdoni.io/dvote/tree/arbo) to build the census merkle trees.
* The censuses can be created with the holders of just one token or a combination of tokens, using **complex strategies**.
* The censuses are *zk-friendly* and can also be used for anonymous voting.

#### About complex strategies
A strategy is a definition of a group of previously created tokens and how their scanned holders must be combined to create a census.
* Must support combinations of tokens which contains:
* A operator, which is a function associated with a tag (e.g. `AND`) that are used to combine token holders and define how to combine them.
* Two token symbols (e.g. `BTC`), that identifies the token holders to combine.
* Must have the following format: `<token_symbol> <operator> <token_symbol>`, e.g. `BTC OR ETH`.
* Must support groups of combinations, e.g. `USDC AND (ETH OR (BTC AND DAI))`

# census3

Census3 is an API service which facilitates the creation of Vocdoni censuses whose eligible voters are defined by token-holders of some cryptocurrency token(s). The service has a list of registered tokens whose holder addresses and balances it keeps updated in real time.

The Census3 service then uses this token-holder information to create a merkle tree census (compatible with [Vocdoni](https://vocdoni.io/)) according to some given eligibility criteria.

This code is written in golang and is meant to be used in conjunction with other Vocdoni tools, such as the [API](https://developer.vocdoni.io/vocdoni-api/vocdoni-api).

The best place to learn about interacting with the Census3 Service is the [developer portal](https://developer.vocdoni.io/).
