"I've created a form that expands when content is entered into the first and only visible field initially. What pattern should I be following? See attached screenshots. Note: pressing enter will validate the form (without expanding it). Please advise, thank you!

Hi Michaux,

I understand you're asking which pattern you should use for the sign-in or sign-up form. The choice ultimately depends on the user interaction you want to implement as the developer with accessibility in mind.

Additionally, the ARIA Practices Group (APG) provides an Accordion example, which you may want to explore with disclosure(show and hide) patterns.

The ARIA Authoring Practices (APG) Task Force just discussed Issue 3145 - Mailing list question about disclosures and pattern choice.

<jugglinmike> Matt_King: I'm not sure what to think of this particular issue. It says "see attached screenshots", but there's not a lot of information in the text of the message
<jugglinmike> Matt_King: Is there anything useful we can say in response to this question based on the content of those screenshots?
<jugglinmike> Matt_King: It sounds potentially not accessible that you enter text into an input and that fails to cause something to expand
<jugglinmike> Jem: I added a comment on October 15, explaining that the choices ultimately depend on the desired user interaction
<jugglinmike> [Jem reads her response]
<jugglinmike> Jem: This was reported on the mailing list, but I may not have copied my comment to the mailing list
<jugglinmike> Jem: Actually, I did in fact send that as an e-mail
<jugglinmike> Matt_King: It sounds like your explanation sufficiently addressed the question
<jugglinmike> Matt_King: So I think we can close this
