# Geographical Relationships

## Introduction

In this lab, you will learn how to visualize geographical relationships using a map and manage color assignments to easily distinguish profits by cities.

Estimated Lab Time: 10 minutes

### Objectives

In this lab, you will:
* Create a map visualization
* Manage map properties

### Prerequisites

This lab assumes you have:
* Access to Oracle Analytics Cloud
* Access to DV Content Author
* All previous labs successfully completed

## Task 1: Visualize Geographical Relationships

1. Ctrl (Command on Mac) + select **City**, **Profit**, and **Quantity Ordered**. Right-click and select **Pick Visualization...**

![Pick visualization](images/pick-viz.png)

2. Pick the **Map** visualization.

![Pick Map](images/pick-map.png =400x*)

3. This is our simple map visualization which shows the Profit bubble by color and Quantity Ordered by the size of the bubble. We can improve this visualization further by using colors to help us identify cities that are in positive profit vs negative profit.

![Map result](images/default-map.png)

4. Right-click the map visualization and click **Color**. Then click **Manage Assignments...**

![Manage color assignments](images/manage-assignments.png)

5. Click the drop-down option for **Profit** to change the color gradient.

![Change color](images/change-profit-color.png =400x*)

6. Select the **Diverging Red-White-Green** gradient.

![Select gradiaent](images/select-rwg.png =400x*)

7. Click the Red color box to change the color for negative **Profit**.

![Change color for profit](images/profit-color.png =400x*)

8. Select the rustic-orange preset and click **OK**. This will represent our negative profit values.

![Select orange](images/select-orange.png =400x*)

9. Click the green color box for positive profit.

![Positive profit](images/positive-profit.png =400x*)

10. Select the sea-blue color from the preset. This will represent our positive profits. Click **OK**.

![Select blue](images/select-blue.png =400x*)

11. Click **Done** to apply the new color assignments.

![Apply new color assignment](images/apply-assignment.png =400x*)

12. As you can see, it's now much easier to identify cities that are either profiting or losing money. This can help us easily decide where we need to re-allocate our resources. Maps are a great way to show geographical relationships in our data.

![Map result](images/map-result.png =400x*)

13. Change the **Title** of the visualization to **Geographical Relationships** and make the font **Bolded**.

![Viz properties](images/viz-properties.png =400x*)

14. Rename the canvas to **Geographical Relationships** and click **Save** to save the workbook.

![Save workbook](images/save-workbook.png)

15. Name the workbook **Choosing the best visualizations** and click **Save**.

![Save as](images/save-as.png =500x*)

You have completed the Creating Better Data Visualizations with Oracle Analytics hands-on lab!

# Introduction

## About this Workshop

This workshop is the hands-on portion of the "Creating Better Data Visualizations with Oracle Analytics" session hosted by the Oracle Analytics Technical Enablement team. To convey the right message in data visualizations, we must know how to pick the correct visualization type, otherwise, the chart types we select may contradict with our message.

In this workshop, we explore different ways to visualize time comparison and geographical relationships in Oracle Analytics Cloud.

Estimated Workshop Time: 25 minutes

### Objectives

In this workshop, you will learn how to:
* Create various data visualization types
* Format visualizations

# Time comparison

## Introduction

In this lab, you will learn how to create visualizations that deal with time; specifically, comparison over time, and composition over time.

Estimated Time: 10 minutes

### Objectives

In this lab, you will:
* create a comparison over time chart (a line chart)
* create a composition over time chart (a stacked area chart)

### Prerequisites

This lab assumes you have:
* Access to Oracle Analytics Cloud
* Access to DV Content Author application role
* Download [Sample Order Lines DS](https://objectstorage.us-phoenix-1.oraclecloud.com/p/TBMVACa7qZgj8ijJ3j5wlILzaVVtw1jo6n4rO8mREaAKjRoWAPX0OVTaEL39buPQ/n/idbwmyplhk4t/b/LiveLabsFiles/o/Sample%20Order%20Lines%20DS.xlsx) dataset

## Task 1: Create a Comparison Over Time Chart

1. Login to your OAC instance with the credentials provided. From the homepage, click **Create**. Then click **Workbook**.

![Create Workbook](images/create-workbook.png)

2. Search for the **Sample Order Lines DS** dataset and click **Add to Workbook**. Make sure you pick the right dataset.

![Add to workbook](images/add-to-workbook.png)

3. Since we won't be using auto-insights, close the auto-insights panel.

![Close auto-insights](images/close-auto-insights.png)

4. Ctrl (Command for Mac) + select **Profit** and **Month** from **Order Date_R**. Drag and drop these two columns into the canvas to let Oracle Analytics auto-create a Line chart.

![Drag and drop](images/drag-drop.png)

5. To format the title for this Line chart, navigate to the properties panel, and for **Title**, click on **Auto**. Then select **Custom**.

![Custom title](images/custom-title.png)

6. Type **Monthly Data Across Three Years**. To format the title font, click the **Title Font** option. This is where you can customize the Font properties. Click the **Bold** icon.

![Bold title](images/bold-title.png)

7. This was a simple comparison over time visualization. Now, let's create a composition over time visualization.

## Task 2: Create a Composition Over Time Chart

1. Click the **Menu** icon of our existing chart.

![Visualization menu](images/viz-menu.png)

2. Click **Edit**, and then click **Duplicate Visualization**.

![Duplicate visualization](images/duplicate-viz.png)

3. Drag the duplicate visualization and place it above the existing chart.

![Position chart](images/position-chart.png)

4. From the data panel, drag **Quantity Ordered** and drop it on top of **Profit** to replace Profit.

![Replace data element](images/replace-profit.png)

5. Drag **Order Priority** into the **Color** section.

![Drag Order Priority](images/order-priority-color.png)

6. Click the visualization type to change the visualization and select the **Stacked Area** chart.

![Stacked area chart](images/stacked-area.png =500x*)

7. Here, we have our **Stacked Area** chart, which shows the composition of **Quantity Ordered** based on the **Order Priority** over time.

![Stacked area](images/stacked-result.png)

8. Let's change the color assignments so that our eyes are drawn to the higher-priority orders. Right-click the visualization and select **Color**. Then click **Manage Assignments...**

![Manage assignments](images/manage-assignments.png)

9. This is where you can manage the color assignment for your attributes. Click the color box for **1 - Critical**.

![Click color box](images/color-box.png =400x*)

10. Select the rusty-orange preset and click **OK**.

![Select new color](images/select-orange.png =400x*)

11. Let's change the color assignment for the high priority orders. Click the color box for **2 - High**.

![Select new color](images/select-high.png =400x*)

12. Select the light-green preset and click **OK**.

![Select light-green](images/select-green.png =400x*)

13. We are fine with the other two color assignments for now. After you set the right color assignments, click **Done** to apply the colors.

![Done](images/done.png =400x*)

14. Let's go ahead and change the **Title** of the **Stacked Area** chart to **2021 Trending Dimensions - Understanding Absolute Changes**.

![Change title](images/change-title.png)

15. Click the drop-down option on the Canvas and select **Rename**.

![Rename canvas](images/rename-canvas.png)

16. Name it **Time**, then click **Add Canvas**. We will create a geographical relationship visualization in this new canvas.

![Add canvas](images/add-canvas.png =400x*)

You may now **proceed to the next lab**.
