Currently I include a copy of this lib in all my addons. Now I want to move it to a separate addon to get rid of code duplication.

The naming is confusing as we already have https://pypi.org/project/simple-requests/. Is choosing a different name an option?

I'd rather not. And there's always a chance of a name clash with a new name. In any case the project you've found has not been updated for more than 10 years, so it's not like I'm using a name of a popular current project.
