CNMAT-MMJSS-2015

touch code

Welcome to the 2015 edition of CNMAT's Max/MSP/Jitter Summer School.

Introduction — https://docs.cycling74.com/max7/

Max/MSP/Jitter download v7.0.4

*Note: Windows users should install both the 32-bit version of Max 6 and 32-bit version of Max 7. We cannot offer full 64-bit support at this time, although we will in the near future.

For this class, we need to install some files and folders, which operate as an extension to the Max application.

================

Installation part 1:

Download these zipped archives of the current materials:

CNMAT MMJ Summer School Files (updated each day)

CNMAT MMJ Depot

CNMAT odot Library Mac / CNMAT odot Library Win

CNMAT Externals Mac / CNMAT Externals Win

Double-click to unzip, and place the resultant folders in the following location(s), depending on your OS:

Mac:

`~/Documents/Max\ 7/Packages/`

Win (please copy all packages to both folder locations):

`C:\Users\<your username>\Documents\Max 7\Packages`

`C:\Users\<your username>\Documents\Max\Packages`

================

Installation part 2:

  • Launch Max application

  • Go to Max -> Options -> File Preferences

  • Add a search path preference for the following folder (+ button), then click on 'choose':

    Choose this folder for Mac: ~/Documents/Max\ 7/Packages/odot/dev

    Choose this folder for Win Max 7: C:\Users\<your username>\Documents\Max 7\Packages\odot\dev

    Choose this folder in Win Max 6: C:\Users\<your username>\Documents\Max\Packages\odot\dev

  • If you're having trouble, please ask one of our beloved TAs!

Mac users:

Please let your TA know if you have Unity3D game engine software installed. Unity comes with a tool that likes to alter file associations. Try this out.

Esplora Guidelines Mac

Each day, please do the following after finding your seat and setting up:

  • With Max quit, plug your Esplora device into a USB port
  • Launch Max
  • Find my-esplora in Extras -> MMJSS-extras -> my-esplora
  • Mouse over the menu and wait 3 seconds
  • Choose your Esplora port
  • Save patch
  • Close patch

Windows users:

In addition to running 32-bit Max 7, You'll need to install 32-bit Max 6.1.10. You can find that here.

Please make sure to install Arduino environment, found here

The Max application will not always respond well to hot plugging (unplugging and re-plugging). The easiest way to avoid this issue is to follow the Esplora guidelines below.

Esplora Guidelines Windows

  • With Max quit, plug your Esplora device into a USB port
  • Launch Max 6, and open the Max 6 server patch: Extras -> MMJSS-extras -> o.m6_server.
  • Find my-esplora in C:\Users\Documents\Max 7\Packages\MMJSS-master\extras\my-esplora.maxpat, and overwrite that file with this one.
