The new feature is an optional "Media Save Redirect" that works based on the URL parameters that are applied when on a node's "Media" tab and "Add Media" is clicked. There is no redirect when adding media other ways, or when editing existing media. (but PRs welcome!) This feature must be enabled in Configuration > Islandora > Islandora Core Settings.
