External samples

In order to keep the codebase fresh and distribute changes across all variants, every new sample is based on an existing one. See Development branches - Dependencies for details. Merging changes is not trivial so we're keeping the number of official variants low.
However, we encourage developers to create variants and host them in their own repositories. If they stick to the guidelines in Contributions, we'll add them to a list of "external samples" in the README. Once we're ready to host more samples, and if the author agrees, we'll promote them to official and host them in android-architecture.
