Walkthrough
To start off, thank you for choosing Ark Smart Breeding (ASB). This guide will hopefully help some new users get started with ASB.
First, you'll want to grab the portable zip file or the setup exe file from https://github.com/cadon/ARKStatsExtractor/releases/latest. Make sure you select the first or second option (has the version number listed). Do not download the source code zip files unless you're familiar with compiling. The source code is if you want to build the program yourself and is usually only for developers/programmers.
This walkthrough will cover the most recent version (0.28.6.1) and was written on 6/27/2018. While some of the information and screenshots may become outdated, most of the information will likely remain the same. Unzip the program into the directory of your choice, typically My Documents or Desktop (App Path). Launch the application named ARK Smart Breeding.exe. You may receive a prompt about the application, stating The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software?. This is simply stating the the developer has not yet signed the software and your computer just doesn't know who made it. You can uncheck the Always ask before opening this file checkbox to prevent it popping up in the future (updating or reinstalling the program may overwrite this settings). Click OK.
You may be alerted by your anti-virus software that this file is unrecognized, has infrequent downloads, or any other number of reasons. If you downloaded the app from the official site, these are false positives as many anti-virus software will err on the side of caution and flag anything it can not immediately verify as a good file. My anti-virus has an option the select the program as a "Trusted Source" and does not cause problems with updates or reinstalling the program. Your results may vary, but rest assured, there is absolutely no viruses or other malicious code within ASB.

If you use mods that alter the stats of species, e.g. Classic Flyers, Gaia, you need to load a specific file for the mod, so ASB can handle the mod species. To select a mod file, select the menu Settings - Mod value manager…. If the mod is not listed there, you can create a custom mod file, see Mod-Values for further info.
