Introduction to Statistics, Experimental Design and Hypothesis Testing
Why do we perform experiments? What conclusions would we like to be able to draw from these experiments? Who are we trying to convince? How does the “magic” of statistics help us reach conclusions? This workshop in three sessions, by Reuben Thomas and Michela Traglia of the Bioinformatics Core, is open to anyone interested in learning more about the basics of statistics, experimental design with associated biological, technical aspects and confounding factors to consider, hypothesis testing and power analysis. The first two sessions will lay out the basics concepts while the last session will concentrate on the practical implementation of some basic hypothesis tests and performing statistical power analyses in R.
No background in statistics is required.
This is an introductory workshop in the Biostats series . No prior experience required. No prerequisites.
