Why？他 is used for he, while 它 should be right.
I know sometimes 其他 can be 其它 at most of cases. However 其它 means No other living things. So this seems better than 其他。
其他 usually means Other People with/without lives，while 其它 usually means Other Things without lives.
I prefer on the strict syntax.

另外，他不是 he，他是 he she it。这个是在新文化分化的。过分区分导致的后果就是他们到底是他们还是她们还是它们，当男女混合当有机器人混进来时，我们用哪个他们呢？英语没这个问题，they 与 he she it 不相干。当然，这是题外话，我认为他的分化在当时就是错误的决定。
上面的 ref 里面提到的萌典甚至都没有收录其它。其他并没有排除非生命的意思，这只是部分大陆人的想象，类似的想象还有认为他只表示男性。

再举一个例子，他山之石 可以攻玉。这个也有很多人误写作：它山之石。因为没生命嘛。
当然语言是随着人们的使用变化的，但是要说其他单指有生命的，这完全是误会。而反过来说，其它单指无生命的，确乎有理。当我们在误用的道路上越走越远时，你上面说的就变得正确了。但是在当下，其他还没有发展到单指有生命。

哈哈，就像“熊猫”原来叫“猫熊”一样。我想说的是“其它”在大陆这里远比“其他”更容易接受。不知道港澳台地区是怎么认为的。
下面请出专业的：

2）现代汉语词典（自己手机版下载，直接查询“其它”）：
上面都收录了“其它”的说法，因此“其它”这个词已经被广泛接纳了，你可以理解为“其他”=“其它”，谢谢，不必纠结了。
