ongoing docs work

more sandboxes, tidying up what has landed, and cross-referencing

crack protobuf -> jsonschema (finally)

pretty confident i can update PR now, just need to find some time to work it out.

land tutorial section PR (hopefully)

still ironing out issues with start section. once that is out of the way will begin this in earnest.

test out moving some small parts to rst

start working on definitions
