Persona #3
Dr. Peter Politico is a professor of political science for the University of South Carolina. Peter has been teaching at the University for 25 years now, and has always tried to engage the students thoughtfully to bring out their critical thinking skills. Most of his classes begin with a short lecture about current events and how class material relates to them, then he turns to the students for further discussion. This thoughtful engagement with his class has become quite popular among the students, and his class size is growing every year.
Dr. Politico has a list of required textbooks on the syllabus, as well required use of a web application: Social-Monomania. He asks his students to use the application for discussion material when certain major events occur, such as a presidential election, when a major piece of legislation has passed, events dealing with other countries, how government response was during natural disasters, etc.
Dr. Politico finds that by using Social-Monomania, the students have become more engaged in the discussions as they have more material and information at their hands. He can also use the app to tell them how other peers in the surrounding area have responded to these events, fueling the discussion even further. Dr. Politico is excited to see when new social media platforms emerge, as he knows Social-Monomania would have the potential to collect even more opinions to enrich his classroom discussions.
