Why are empty directories like https://github.com/w3c/web-platform-tests/tree/master/html/syntax/named-character-references still in the repository? It looks like the test files have moved to https://github.com/w3c/web-platform-tests/tree/master/html/syntax/parsing. Just wondering.

Will named-character-references not really be used anymore? I.e. there is no such section in the spec?

We have .gitkeep files in order to have a directory structure that makes it easy for contributors to find where to place their files. Not having to deal with creating new directories which might be wrong.

I can see the problems of doing that, but that's the reason as far as I know :-)

If something is moved though, or a section deleted - then it'd make sense to just do the same in the repo as well.

E.g. https://github.com/w3c/web-platform-tests/blob/master/html/syntax/parsing/named-character-references.html was moved from that directory. I’m just a bit confused, that’s all.

I think for parsing, it probably makes more sense to throw them all together in /html/syntax/parsing, so we should remove these empty dirs. @darobin?

The story behind the empty directories is simple: when the structure was initially created it was empty. And then it got filled in with stuff. It's just there to help, if it's in any way annoying there surely is no problem deleting stuff.
