Agenda/Notes

  1. Welcome
  2. Review agenda
  3. Updates since last meeting (Team)
    • Anna will confirm with Enrico the need to have each IWXXM sub-package to be maintained in separate sub-directories in schemas.wmo.int.
      • Still open. To recap Jan showed us we probably need to have separate namespaces for sub-packages instead of just one (viz. icao.int/iwxxm/2023-1). [Post meeting note: (Choy) has a second thought, especially when we move on using iwxxm:MeteorologicalFeature as the building block and iwxxm:MeteorologicalFeatureCollection as the collective; the use of different namespaces can better separate the two. He will take this into account in exploring with IWXXM-SX]
    • Anna will prepare document on GitHub and development/approval workflows: https://github.com/wmo-im/wmo-im.github.io/wiki/Repository-Workflow-Guidance;
      • Anna will add workflow to include the EA.
    • All: review the changes documented for SWA and QVA within a week
      • Still open
    • Dirk will ask about the difference between DAYSIDE and NIGHTSIDE
      • Still in progress, hopefully will have a response in a week or two.
    • Choy will open an issue concerning the need to create new WMO Abbreviated Headers (TT and maybe AA part of the TTAAii) for exchange of IWXXM VONA and QVA on ICAO AFS
      • Still open. (Anna) WMO will not be maintaining headers for anything. If ICAO needs these, then ICAO will need to manage. (Dirk) GTS headers would still be needed during the transition to SWIM. The ICAO EUR/NAT Data Management Group (DMG) has the right people to help managing the headers. (Choy) As this involves global distribution we may need to have a management framework at global level (note how the GTS Manual got approved). Choy and Dirk will bring this up for discussion at MIE/10.
    • Choy to help Matt to kick start the discussion on arrangements to distribute publication news on ICAO side.
      • Closed, Matt will present current solution in place at MIE/10 (hopefully) and what is left to figure out, e.g. date of use/applicable time for operations.
    • Mark will open an issue about fixing an error in schematron for 3.0.
      • Done
    • Choy to provide a fix to the schematron for 3.0 and post it along with the issue discussions.
      • Still open
  4. Preparations for MIE/10
    • Choy and Anna to prepare a SN on TT-AvData activities.
  5. Amendment 81 issues - Discussion on the progress of schema development (Choy)
    • see discussion on /iwxxm/wiki/VONA-Design-Review-Teleconference-20203-May-1.
    • Choy has also looked at the changes to IWXXM for SWA. The separation of 'intensity' from the effect of SWx and its regrouping with the affected region(s) entails a significant change. He has a concern that further re-grouping may occur in future as now an advisory only describes one effect of a SWx event. (Dirk) indicated that in the current practice if there are two effects it is required to issue two separate advisories. The team also discussed options for where to put specific code values (an enumeration vs a codelist).
  6. Forthcoming events:
    • Welcome new team members. Conduct a workshop for new team members to introduce the team's work (20 Mar 2023)
    • Review and approve changes to IWXXM involved in Amendment 81 before public consultation (Apr/May 2023)
    • Conduct public consultation (Jun to Sep 2023)
    • Review of responses from public consultation (Sep to Nov 2023)
    • Review and approve changes to IWXXM involved in Amendment 81 for FT2024-X (Tentatively Dec 2023. Approval date subject to when Amendment 81 is approved by ANC and the difference between the approved and proposed versions of Annex 3/PANS-MET)

** NOT DISCUSSED**

  1. [Shelved] Outstanding work of previous meetings (Team): There were no further updates to these topics.
    • XSD locations for IWXXM packages (#271) (Jan)
    • On-going populating new examples in wmo-im/iwxxm-translation (Mark, Jan and Dmitry)
  2. [Shelved] Review outstanding issues with no milestones (Anna).
