Non‐Game Software

IGDB is a video game database. However, we understand that there is historical significance to some non-game software on video game consoles, and as such, some non-game software is allowed in the database.

What is allowed?

Software must be released for an older closed platform dedicated to playing video games. For example I Am a Teacher: Super Mario Sweater is a program for designing sweaters on the Famicom Disk System.

What is not allowed?

Software for open platforms such as home computers, or platforms not primarily focused on games such as DVD, will not be considered. Additionally, software for newer game-focused platforms where it is common to have non-gaming applications will also not be considered. A good rule of thumb for newer game platforms is that if Netflix was available for a platform, it’s probably not a good fit.
