Fellowship

A Jedi can be alone, but time has shown that it is better for the Jedi to be in a community to avoid certain over-specialization or obsessions. Nonetheless, fellowship forms one of the foundations for mastery, so shouldn't be considered mere socialization.

There is no handbook for the Jedi, lest factions develop and splinter the whole. As the Jedi hold transcendental aims, there is no reason for factions. The presence of the Sith is just part of the diversity of the Force itself.

The Jedi Order for the Republic can be recognized by their insignia. The insignia encode both the light and the dark. The wings represent the legend of the Pheonix, rising from ash. If you encounter a fellow Knight, be sure to make a connection, exchange names, potential shelter for each other if you're from different towns, and get to know what their ruling motto or philosophy is. Encountering a Sith, there's no telling, for they live in the moment and nothing is planned.

Every Jedi should have a simple, but potent, motto that sums up the rules they live by. As one of the Masteries of the Jedi is Knowledge, the Jedi must continually test each other for weaknesses in their view of the world or philosophy.

The Jedi is a specialist, an individual, but not an army grunt. S/He doesn't report to anybody, there is no real chief among the Jedi, only the masters themselves -- and they don't accept followers. The Apprentice isn't considered a follower in order to distinguish the Jedi from a cult. For the purpose of the Order is to create masters, not followers.

Keeping an apprentice helps the Jedi develop their fellowship, for the must master the apprentice, too.

Since the Jedi is not a mercenary for hire, Jedi help each other. A Jedi should never refuse to host another -- it would imply that you have slacked at maintaining your relationship to the Force (feeling embarrassed) or have abandoned it completely (betrayal).

The Jedi, you could say, form the "Fourth Doctor" of the State, besides the Doctors in Philosophy, Medicine, and Law. They are an organizing force for society, for governance, and for compassion, but remain distinct from those others by being outside the State, pressing inward. An immune system for civilization itself. They must always stay above the crowd, so that they know how to protect the public when need arises. If they were to be a member, they'd have to assimilate (with it`s methods and mindsets) and the whole would deteriorate, much like States have done in the past. They are the New World Order's replacement for a standing military, which have only police to uphold the Law.

If a society arises which is both enlightened and productive, it will come by way of the Jedi Order and with the Wisdom gained from the Sith.
