Jedi training
- "Knowledge and Awareness, Effort and Rest must go hand-in-hand. Each informs and enhances the other."
- "Through many observations, the true picture becomes clear. Through the outer world grinding against you, one's actions become perfected."
- "The master hides all of his/her secrets in the obvious." Consider GOD: trees, flowers, rain, etc.
- "The master knows when to be available and unavailable, all of the time." (Don Juan, Tales of Power?) Another way of saying this: "Never act when you don't need to. Always act when the world needs it.
Here's a daily Jedi practice:
- Do some tai chi movements.
- Put on loose-fitting, but cozy attire
- eat a wholesome breakfast
- take a look around at the day, notice the weather, sunlight level, activity
- Move toward an achievement that will move the world a little bit further towards wisdom, harmony, etc
- Solidify the effort with a meal aligned with it.
- Spend a roughly equal time with personal goals, socializing, etc. Micromovements, serendipity...
- Observe any reflections of these events
- Eat something that feeds the whole
- Find something to dissipate any tensions from the day, maintain balance
- Remove attire. Undergarmets are drawstring only to keep connection to the world outside.
- Read a bit of news to cross-check inner state with the outer world.
- Give thanks to the gods, the Force, retire in peace.
- Sleep
The master gives the apprentice her or his own name, which will be used in place of their family name, about which they must clear up any entanglements and detach.
A name is a powerful thing. The right name can gather forces around it and confer great advantage if used wisely. A poor name does the opposite, gathering choss and depleting the new Jedi. The Jedi master must choose carefully.
A name should be chosen that is in harmony with the times -- or slightly out of harmony. In other words, a name that establishes a statement to mend imbalance between dark and light.
The master could confer a last name or secondary names to delineate different lineages.
Never try to own the light, unless you made it. Likewise, do not personalize the darkness. One serves the forces so that they may resolve to a greater order than either alone.
The Jedi training is not a set of courses that one gives the apprentice. It is a co- adventure of finding where the apprentice fits in the Universe and being available when they have questions.
Of course, that's the "soft" approach. The hard approach is to throw them into the fire until they have to re-organize their being in relation to the Universe. This trains them faster but has risks if done improperly. Such Jedi are called Sith (or, singular: a Sith'ari) and creates markings on their skin (tattoos of sorts). The Sith'ari reveal less compassion or mercy than regular Jedi, but this doesn't make them cruel. See the Snide Guide version.
In either case, this is hence a Jedi generally has few apprentices.
A master may find a worthy apprentice and fight them, engaging them masterfully, until they see they are defeated. Such an operation requires a lot of coversion and cover so as not to reveal that one is a master.
The master knows the ancient properties of the eyes, motion, and ears and can use them to ease sophistry.
The Jedi master watches for events that show movements in the Force (say tanks going through a city), and moves with equal intensity to counter-balance things or to protect their higher interests at stake.
It is always a sign of the soul, every expression of Man. Every sign can be read, if you care enough. A Jedi must know every disease of their system to stay on top of it.
Youth are naturally drawn to beings of power, if it is the light side. You must to offer such kids something for the Spirit of Man within them.
"He who controls others may be powerful, but he who has mastered himself is mightier still." --Zen
TODO: There should be a hand sign for Jedi so that they can communicate without words to confer a "blessing" to others and wish them well on their way. Something akin to "may the Force be with you". And also one that signals "Danger".
The Jedi knows that all magic needs only 2 techniques: distraction and/or preparation. These two are divided further into distraction of the mind (akin to stage magic) vs. distraction of the body (akin to mesmerization) and preparation through separation of items (redundancy) and preparation through connection (something visible connected to something hidden). Two of these are considered dark-side techniques and two are light.
